Packer kill cuts drive cattle weights higher.

The weekly Actual Slaughter report detailed meat production statistics for the third week of October.

Dressed steer weights were +10 lbs. from the prior week, 960 lbs. Dressed heifers were +3 from the prior week, now 866. Compared with last year steer weights rose from +23 lbs. to now +33. Heifers rose from +23 lbs. from last year to now +26.

Cattle weights were +2.6% year/year in the prior week. Given October beef packer kill cutbacks, they are now +3.4%.

Dressed barrow/gilt weights were +1 lb. from the prior week, now 212 lbs. Compared with last year there was no change, +2.

Hog weights stayed at the prior week's +1.0% from last year.
