The weekly Actual Slaughter report detailed meat production statistics for the second full week of August.
Dressed steer weights rose +6 lbs. from the prior week to now 931. Dressed heifers were +1 lb. in this week to 840. Compared with last year there was also a rise. Steers pushed from +24 lbs. vs. last year to +26. Heifers rose from +19 lbs. to now +20.
Cattle weights peaked in May at +4.0% year/year. They declined down to +2.5% by the first week of August. They are now +2.7%.
Dressed hog weights were unchanged from the prior week, 208 lbs. Compared with last year they lightly declined from +4 lbs. to now +3.
Higher weights are now adding +1.5% year/year to pork production separate from slaughter numbers.
